Group classes are conducted at Queensborough Community College in Bayside, Queens.

A Brief History Of the Suzuki Program

In the fall of 1971, Nicole DiCecco founded the Suzuki Program in conjunction with Queensborough Community College of The City University of New York. It started with only a handful of children, but it quickly blossomed into one of the nations finest music learning institutions. The primary reason for it's success?, the love of music more time working, the love of children, the dedication to teaching, and the schools special method of instruction which was introduced by it's director and founder, Mrs. Nicole DiCecco.

Throughout the years, the Suzuki Program has developed and produced many award winning musicians, but it is most proud of the high level of musicianship developed by even the least talented students.

Some of the highlights over the past 30 years include:

Two students, ages 8 and 9, winning the 1980 "New York Philharmonic Young Peoples Competition", which culminated in a special concert performance with Zubin Mehta and The N.Y. Philharmonic Orchestra. Two years later, they were invited to perform in the "subscription series" with The N.Y. Philharmonic. They were the youngest children ever to appear with a major symphony orchestra. One of those two students, Nicholas Eanet is currently the concertmaster of the New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
Many students (current and alumni), have concertized in France, Italy and throughout Asia.
Some special performances include:
A command performance in Rome, Italy for The Pope,
A special concert at the executive mansion for Mrs. Mario Cuomo,
Performances at Queensborough Community College graduation ceremonies for Senator Patrick Moynihan and borough president Claire Shulman, and special concerts given each year by select students at Weill Hall @ Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, Flushing Town hall, Donnell Library and many other N.Y. metropolitan area concert venues.

Many of our students have been accepted at The Juilliard School of Music, The Manhattan School of Music, Oberlin School of Music and Indiana University, to mention a few. Most of them are pursuing professional music careers today.

Nicole DiCecco has been the subject of numerous worldwide media interviews (both television & print).

What is most astounding about our students achievements is that although few of them are considered "special" students at the time of their enrollment, all of them reach a superior level of performance.

The Suzuki Program in conjunction with neighboring Queensborough Community College continues to be a majoral cultural asset to the New York metropolitan area.
